Pool Filtration Maintenance Tips

As a swimming pool owner, you may feel that you’re in a constant battle with your pool cartridge filter. You may feel that you’re always trying to keep your pool water balanced and clean. One of the most time-consuming (yet, important) tasks in swimming pool maintenance is cleaning the filter. To help you improve your pool filtration and make the most out of your filter, take a look at these tips.

  1. If dirt and debris seem to bypass your filter cartridge, it’s time to take a closer look. Look for cracks in the ends of your cartridge or rips in the pleats. Another cause of dirt getting around the cartridge is misplaced or misaligned parts within the filter. Look to your filter’s owner’s manual to ensure all is correctly placed.
  2. Cartridges can become quickly clogged with oily substances, such as suntan oil, cosmetics, hair care products, and just plain old body oils. Soaking your cartridges in the cleaner will help to break down the oils.
  3. Avoid cleaning the cartridges too much. Filter cartridges become a bit more effective at trapping dirt when the cartridges are slightly dirty. Trapped dirty helps to trap more dirt. Each time a pool filter cartridge is cleaned, the fibers loosen and the dirt-trapping ability is slightly reduced.
